Dr. Tonya Wolfe
Dr. Tonya Wolfe serves as Associate Vice President, Applied Research at Red Deer Polytechnic. Since joining RDP in 2020, she has played a pivotal role in expanding the Centre for Innovation in Manufacturing (CIM-TAC) and the Energy Innovation Centre (EIC). Under her leadership, RDP was named among Canada’s Top 50 Applied Research Colleges and achieved the #1 national ranking for applied research growth in 2021. Renowned in Alberta’s innovation community, Dr. Wolfe’s expertise spans metallurgy, materials design, additive manufacturing, welding, wear-resistant materials, steelmaking, biomedical engineering, and process modeling. She holds a Professional Engineering designation, a Bachelor of Applied Science from Queen’s University, and graduate degrees from the University of Alberta, where her research focused on biomaterials and advanced welding techniques. With over 20 years of experience, Dr. Wolfe is actively involved with organizations such as the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta and is a founding member of the Alberta Additive Manufacturing Network. At RDP, she leads teams that collaborate with industry and business partners to develop innovative solutions, while also advancing the institution’s role within Alberta’s broader innovation ecosystem.
