Dr. Leijun Li, P.Eng., is Professor of Materials Engineering and Chair of the Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering at University of Alberta. He teaches welding and physical metallurgy and leads research in solidification, microstructure formation, and resulting properties of alloys and structures used for energy and natural resources. He is a Fellow of American Welding Society, American Society for Metals, and the Canadian Welding Bureau/Association. Dr. Li obtained his Ph.D. degree from the Warren “Doc” Savage Materials Joining Lab at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI). His research has received numerous awards, including the Editor’s Choice for Metallurgical and Materials Transactions (2020), A.F. Davis Silver Medal Award (2019), W.F. Savage Memorial Award twice (2018 and 2025), McKay-Helm Award (2018), W.H. Hobart Memorial Award four times (2014, 2017, 2021, and 2024), and the Adams Memorial Award (2006).
